The Ardour

Accessibility considerations include a rough-in for a future elevator.

The Plan

The family originally grew up in Belgravia but members moved to different locations, this provided a way for them to reunite and live together again. The eye-catching peak of this home while beautiful, at the time of the build was one of our most challenging architectural designs and easily still one of our favourites!

This family is a pillar in the community and part of their motivation was to show good stewardship, increase density in a responsible manner.

The Build

With 4 separate suites and 4 separate entrances, everyone has their personal space. Each unit includes a basement, main floor and second floor. Window placement to allow natural light was very important. Sound proofing, durable materials and energy efficiency were priorities.

The Family That Dines Together…

Effect is very fortunate to work with wonderful people that share our values and this family was exceptional to work with. We were able to collaborate with them and build something special.

They even had a heirloom dining table made out of select grade walnut to pass on to future generations. It can comfortably accommodate large family gatherings. With younger children in the family, it had to be durable and able to withstand the rigours of daily use but also the natural wood beauty and presentation was important. Concern for a solid, natural wood table giving off a too rustic feel was also an important design element.
